Criticality and Averaging in Cosmology

چکیده

We propose comparing cosmological solutions in terms of their total spatial volumes V (τ ) as functions of proper time τ , assuming synchronous gauge, and with this intention evaluate the variations of V (τ ) about the Friedmann-Lemâıtre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) solutions for dust. This can be done successfully in a simple manner without solving perturbation equations. In particular, we find that first variations vanish with respect to all directions which do not possess homogeneity and isotropy preserving components; in other words, every FLRW solution is a critical point for V (τ ) in the properly restricted subspace of the space of solutions. This property may support a validity of the interpretation of the FLRW solutions as constituting an averaged model. We also briefly investigate the second variations of V (τ ).

Explicit Cosmological Coarse Graining via Spatial Averaging

The present matter density of the Universe, while highly inhomogeneous on small scales, displays approximate homogeneity on large scales. We propose that whereas it is justified to use the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) line element (which describes an exactly homogeneous and isotropic universe) as a template to construct luminosity distances in order to compare observations with theory, the ...

Lack of self-averaging in critical disordered systems.

We consider the sample to sample fluctuations that occur in the value of a thermodynamic quantity P in an ensemble of finite systems with quenched disorder, at equilibrium. The variance of P , VP , which characterizes these fluctuations is calculated as a function of the systems’ linear size l, focusing on the behavior at the critical point. The specific model considered is the bond-disordered ...

Averaging in spherically symmetric cosmology

The averaging problem in cosmology is of fundamental importance. When applied to study cosmological evolution, the theory of macroscopic gravity (MG) can be regarded as a long-distance modification of general relativity. In the MG approach to the averaging problem in cosmology, the Einstein field equations on cosmological scales are modified by appropriate gravitational correlation terms. We st...

Spectral Representation and the Averaging Problem in Cosmology 1

We investigate the averaging problem in cosmology as the problem of introducing a distance between spaces. We first introduce the spectral distance, which is a measure of closeness between spaces defined in terms of the spectra of the Laplacian. Then we define SN , a space of all spaces equipped with the spectral distance. We argue that SN can be regarded as a metric space and that it also poss...

Cosmic Walls and Filaments Formation in Modied Chaplygin Gas Cosmology

We want to study the perturbation growth of an initial seed of an ellipsoidal shape in Top-Hat collapse model of the structure formation in the Modied Chaplygin gas cosmology. Considering reasonable values of the constants and the parameters of the model under study, we can show that a very small deviation from spherical symmetry (ellipsoidal geometry) in the initial seed leads to a nal highly ...
